Automotive Paints on the Sunshine Coast: Refinish Systems Stocked at Warana

Concept Paints, Cromax and Bernardo Ecenarro, stocked for Sunshine Coast panel shops, mobile repairers and owners chasing a colour Most shops that ring here already know which refinish system they run; the question is whether we hold it and whether it still suits the way the shop works. The Warana counter stocks Concept Paints including the NO MIX system, Cromax, and Bernardo Ecenarro refinish products. Those three are not interchangeable. Concept Paints says its NO MIX system runs without a mixing bank, Axalta positions Cromax around bodyshop productivity, and BESA publishes bodywork hardeners across several speed grades. This page sets out what each system is and which setup it suits. We supply the paint and the materials; we do not spray cars.

Overview

Three groups buy automotive paint over this counter and they want different things from it. Panel shops and spray painters buy a full system: primer, basecoat, clear, hardener and thinner in the grade that suits the booth and the day. Mobile repairers work out of a ute with no mixing bank behind them, so their question is which system runs without one. Owners arrive with a chip or a scratch and want the colour rather than the system. Queensland Paint Supplies has supplied the trade from the same Kawana and Warana site since October 1989, and the three refinish ranges on the shelf cover all three buyers.

Why Queensland Paint Supplies for automotive paints

Choosing a refinish system is a decision about the shop rather than about the colour. Any of these three ranges will mix a colour. What separates them is what each one needs behind it to run.

Concept Paints NO MIX is a clear over base tinting system, and its defining feature is that the tints need no mixing or stirring before a colour is mixed, with more than sixty tints in 250mL and 1L covering solids, metallics, pearls and additives. Concept Paints makes the commercial argument for that itself: the company says the technology stops the components of the paint from settling, and that this does away with having to maintain or run expensive mixing machinery. That is Concept's claim rather than ours, but it points at the setup the system suits, which is a small workshop or a mobile operator with nowhere to stand a mixing bank. Concept also publishes a low VOC version, NO MIX LV, for work that carries a VOC requirement.

Cromax sits at the other end of the decision. Axalta positions the brand around increasing bodyshop productivity from the front of the shop to the back, through coatings engineered for quick and accurate application.

Bernardo Ecenarro, usually shortened to BESA, has manufactured special paints and coatings for industrial, commercial vehicle and automotive repainting since 1963, and its URKIMIX PRO tintometric system covers patch, panel and overall repair. That commercial vehicle heritage is why it reads well for fleet, truck and trailer panels out of the Kawana and Warana industrial area on the Nicklin Way corridor.

The system you want to run needs a mixing bank you have no room or budget for

Concept Paints built NO MIX as an alternative to the mix system, on technology it says stops the components of the paint from settling so the tints do not need agitating. That matters most to the buyers with nowhere to stand a mixing bank: a single bay workshop, or a repairer working out of a ute. Without the bank you buy pre-mixed colours on someone else's schedule, and that loses you the jobs that need a colour the same day. The NO MIX system is stocked at the Warana counter, so the shop that cannot house a bank is not locked out of mixing its own colour.

The hardener grade on the shelf does not match the day or the panel

The BESA bodywork range runs from fast and slow HS grades through normal, fast, slow and ultra fast UHS variants, described as giving versatility according to the application context. Which grade suits the panel in front of you is worth settling before the job goes into the booth rather than after, because the panel costs a good deal more than the tin. The three refinish brands are stocked here; which individual hardeners are held at Warana is worth confirming at the counter before a job is committed to one. No temperature rule is published here, because nothing behind this page supports one.

The shop runs dry mid job with the booth already loaded

This is a weekday trade counter rather than a round the clock supply line, and a colour nobody can identify stalls a job as hard as an empty hardener tin. A booth standing idle for half a day is a real loss, and a weekend job with no counter open behind it has no recovery at all. Gavin Pollock runs the sales van, with around thirty five years in the refinish industry, carrying day to day products along with a spectrophotometer and computer for the hard to identify colours. Ask about the run, and order on Friday for anything moving over a weekend.

A two-pack product leaves the counter with someone who has no booth and no airline respirator

Two-pack automotive paints and their isocyanate hardeners are sold over the counter, and a buyer who only wants a good finish is not thinking about the mist. WorkSafe Victoria states that spraying generates a mist that may be inhaled and cause respiratory sensitisation and occupational asthma, and that once a person is sensitised, exposure to trace amounts can trigger symptoms, which means they can no longer work with isocyanates. The controls WorkSafe Victoria names for this work are an enclosed spray booth that vents safely outside and a full face airline respirator, and they sit with whoever does the spraying. That detail belongs with the regulator rather than with us, so the WorkSafe Victoria page is listed with our sources. Where the job is a chip or a scratch rather than a panel, a colour matched touch-up is the other way in.

Concept Paints and the NO MIX system

The tinting system from an Australian family owned manufacturer, with a low VOC version alongside it. The tints need no mixing or stirring before a colour is mixed, which suits a single bay workshop or a mobile repairer around Kawana with nowhere to stand a mixing bank. NO MIX LV is the low VOC version.

Cromax refinish systems

Axalta's refinish brand, built around coatings engineered for quick and accurate application in a working bodyshop. The useful conversation here is application speed and getting a colour resolved without the booth standing idle, rather than the cheapest litre. Check what is on the shelf before counting on a particular Axalta colour tool, because a manufacturer's catalogue and a Warana counter are two different lists.

Bernardo Ecenarro (BESA) refinish

Spanish-made special paints and coatings including the URKIMIX PRO tintometric system for patch, panel and overall repair. BESA has built coatings for industrial, commercial vehicle and automotive repainting since 1963, and that commercial vehicle side is why it is worth a look for fleet, truck and trailer panels out of the Kawana and Warana industrial area.

Colour-matched touch-up paint

Touch-up colour matched at the counter for chips and scratches, from a paint number or from the vehicle itself. Two ways in: bring the paint number, or bring the vehicle. The code sits on a manufacturer label whose position varies by make, so if you cannot find it the panel itself is the better starting point. How the match is done is set out on our custom paint page.

Why panel shops and DIYers buy here

Length of trading at one address is the plainest signal a supplier can offer, and this one is checkable. The branch opened on Commerce Avenue at Kawana in October 1989 and still operates from that site, more than thirty five years supplying the Sunshine Coast trade without moving. The counter is at 5 Main Drive, Warana, on the corner of Main Drive and Commerce Avenue with the entrance on Commerce Avenue, open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm and closed on weekends. The business is now under new local ownership, Cory and Candice, continuing the same site and the same trade rather than folding into a chain. Concept Paints, Cromax and Bernardo Ecenarro refinish products are stocked and supplied from this counter.

Questions

Asked at the counter

Which system suits a mobile repairer with no mixing bank?

Concept Paints NO MIX, which is built around tints that need no stirring before a colour is mixed. What we can confirm from here is that the system is stocked at Warana.

Is there a low VOC option in any of these systems?

Concept publishes NO MIX LV, a VOC compliant version of the same system. It is a separate product line rather than a setting, so it has to be ordered as LV. Raise the requirement before you commit a job to it.

Do shops have health monitoring duties for sprayers working with isocyanates?

Safe Work Australia's guidance names spray painting with two-pack paints using an isocyanate hardener as work with isocyanates, and sets health monitoring where exposure is likely to cause an adverse health effect. That duty sits with the employer rather than with a paint supplier. We do not publish the monitoring schedule here, because the intervals are a health and legal matter and belong at the source: the Safe Work Australia link is listed with our sources.

Do you spray cars, or only sell the paint?

We supply the materials only. Three refinish ranges are stocked here, Concept Paints including NO MIX, Cromax, and Bernardo Ecenarro, and touch-up colour is matched at the counter from a paint number or from the vehicle. The spraying is done by you or by your panel shop. If you need a car sprayed, a panel shop is who you want. If you need what goes into the gun, that is this counter.

Ask us for a colour match or a stock check

Tell us the vehicle, the colour code if you have one, or just what you are trying to finish. We will tell you what you need and what it costs.

Need automotive paints?

If you run a shop, start by telling us which of the three systems you are on, and ask what is actually on the shelf against what the manufacturer lists. If you are chasing a colour for a chip or a scratch rather than a system, our custom paint page is where that starts. Counter address and trading hours are on the contact page.
